On the date 14th August, the VDGS is announced in the J&K state of India. The motive of launching this scheme is to enhance the security at the Jammu State boarder areas.
This scheme is only for the Jammu and Kashmir state. this program is related to the J&K state security. It was announced during the azadi ka amrit Mahotsav. Main Motive of VDGS
The chief motive behind releasing this VDGs is to protect the villages near the border area of Jammu and Kashmir. By organizing a group of volunteers between the armed civilians in the village. This scheme is started for the protection of the boarder areas villages. To protect the border area villages in day as well as night the group of volunteers will do the work.

Benefits of the Village Defence Guards Scheme
- Under this scheme a mini group of volunteers will be organized among the armed civilians near the border areas of Jammu for the safety of the village near boarder areas. The infrastructure installations will also be done for the security purpose.
- The Defence responsibility of infrastructure within the village and communal installations will be of village defense guards. They will do the defense of the areas of the village during both day and night.
- To improve the defense and security the union territory it is necessary to organize such group for or the protection. It will prevent the attacks from the terrorists especially near the border areas.
- This group is made of 15 people in one group. Who will do patrolling in the border area during both day and night.
- There are two categories of the VDGs, one is the valid armed license and weapons given by j &k police and other are who have valid license and weapons and can buy the weapons by their own too.
- The applicants will get selection under this VDGs will be done by the district administration.
- The village defense groups will also give the support by the chowkidars and Lumberdars in the vulnerable areas of the village.
- The groups will be given the salary, The first group will get 4500 rupees every month and other group who are the voluntarily member of the defense group will get the 4000 rupees every month.
